Dreams of the Lost Tribe
Welcome to the Deep South, a world swept by hurricanes, heat and hottenanny. A small shack, irreparable from torrents of weather, provides a home for the unfortunate souls "left to wander in the wilderness of fiery serpents and scorpions." Whether "lost" in the journey to the Promised Land by choice or neglect, these folk continue to invoke love, adventure and hope through their dreams despite the dog day heat.
A mixture of stories drifts through the air as John Davis' music weaves its way through the lives of the often forgotten inhabitants of the swamps and backcountry of the Deep South. Davis grew up near the Okefenokee swamp, a land of "trembling earth" that straddles the border of Georgia and Florida. His debut album (2002) provides the soundtrack for the Tap Arts Project's debut dance production:
